Prominent pashto poet, iedologue and notable Afghan politican, Sulaiman Layeq breathed his last on July 30, 2020 in Germany at the age of 89.
Suleiman Layeq’s son, Gharzai Layek, posted the news of his death on his Facebook page, saying he had died today from injuries sustained in the blast in Kabul. Suleiman Layeq was injured in a suicide attack on September 5, 2019 in the Shashdarak area of Kabul.
Throughout his 89 years of life, Layiq proved that he really is a layiq person. He wrote poetry in Pashto and Dari as well as authored many books including Chunghar, De Abaseen Spaiday, Kaygday and Qeesay Aw Afsanay. He also founded the newspaper Parcham in 1968.
Besides his services to pashto and dari literature, he was also a prominent political leader in Afghanistan who was a permanent member of the Central Committee of the Parcham parliamentary group. In 1981 he was promoted to President of the Academy of Sciences, full member of the Afghan Politburo, and Minister of Nationalities and Tribal Affairs.
